The Smoking Man
'The Smoking Man' is the opening track on the forthcoming album 'Freedom Of Speech' by the Brighton (UK) alt-everything band The Family Grave. A bright and lively indie-pop track about wealth and power and the resilience of the 99%, it's a song that takes a political position without being shouty or didactic; an expression of love for the struggling classes, that couldn't be more relevant today. "In this life we're lucky not to thrive, because the rich will fall and the beautiful will come out and play." It is a song that demands to be heard. There are two versions of the song on the album, the strident opening version and a slower simpler version to close, emphasising the importance of the song's message.
