“I Forgive You” is about forgiving the person behind the wheel the night my life changed forever. Before the accident, we were friends — making music, going on late-night drives and living without any idea of what was coming. Then one night left me with a spinal cord injury, a coma, and a completely different life. The song isn’t about saying what happened was okay or pretending there isn’t pain, anger and grief attached to it. It’s about choosing not to carry that anger forever. “I Forgive You” looks back at who we were before the crash, what was taken from both of us, and the difficult decision to let go — even when forgetting is impossible.
